FAQ's

What is different about Printworks to all the other student halls in Exeter?
The Printworks has been designed to match your style of living. As we are an independent property it’s easier for us to design a property that suits the needs of all student types. We are not constrained by brand standards like some of the other student hall owners. We have focused on creating rooms that suit all tastes and budgets and to complement this we have created contemporary and flexible communal spaces, designed by a leading East London design agency.
You talk about independent living, what does this mean?
Our service style is relaxed but no less efficient and we try not to be constrained by too many rules. Think of us as living in a student house but with all the benefits of great communal facilities, all inclusive rent and a choice of room types.
Who will manage the property?
The property is managed by the UK's largest specialist student property management company called CRM. That gives us the best balance of independent ownership and experienced management.
Are you part of the University?
No, we are fully independent of the University but understand that great relationships with Exeter University are very important.
Can any student live at The Printworks?
Yes, anyone who is a full-time student in Higher Education is welcome.
There are lots of different types of rooms and prices, what’s the difference between them?
Our rooms have been categorised by type (studios or cluster flats that allow you to live with friends) and classification. This allows us to meet all budgets. The classification of the room is derived from size, location and facilities.
How do I book a room at The Printworks?
To book a room you can do so through this Website – just click on the link to the right. At this stage you will be required to fill in some personal details, pick your room type and then pay a £250 deposit. As an alternative visit our show flat and our dedicated sales team will talk you through the booking process. Move in date is 13th September 2014, however, if you want to move in early; a few days or a few weeks, please let us know and we can arrange for your room and agreement to be changed.
When is my first rent payment due?
The first rent payment is due 10 days prior to your contract start date (14th September), however, if you are moving in before the 14th September, we may have to make special arrangements. Contact The Printworks team for more about the process.
Can I rent a room with my friend / partner?
Yes please talk to the on site team for more details.
What dates can I move into my new Printworks room?
Our move-in date is 13th September 2014, however, if you want to move in early; a few days or a few weeks, please let us know and we can arrange for your room and agreement to be changed.
What contract lengths are available at The Printworks?
Tenancies are available for 43 weeks to fit your University term or on a 51 week basis. If you need to arrive early we can extend your tenancy accordingly.
What are The Printworks payment terms for the rent?
Rent is either payable in one sum no less than 10 days prior to check in or in 4 instalments. For 43 week tenancies the first payment instalment is for 6 weeks, the second 11 weeks, the third 16 weeks and the fourth 10 weeks. For 51 week tenancies the first payment instalment is for 6 weeks, the second 15 weeks, the third 16 weeks and the fourth 14 weeks. To be eligible for instalment payment customers will be required to provide a guarantor which does not need to be UK based.
Can I choose which room I live in?
If you have any preferences or requests with regards to your room you can put these in the special requirements box when booking. We will then make every effort to accommodate any preferences you may have.
When I return my contracts what else do I need to send back?
If you are paying the rent fully in advance you need to send back the following; 2 x signed contracts (these must be originals and not photocopies), 2 x passport photos, photocopy of your passport and a proof of address (bill/bank statement preferably). If you are paying the rent in instalments then you are required to send the following back; 2 x signed contracts (these must be originals and not photocopies), 2 x passport photos, photocopy of your passport and a proof of address (bill/bank statement preferably). We also need a copy of your guarantor’s proof of address which must be either a utilities bill or bank statement.
If I miss the 10 day deadline to return my contracts what should I do?
If you miss the 10 day deadline please contact The Printworks to inform us of this and that you still intend on sending them back to us. We realise that some students living abroad cannot return all the required documents to us within the 10 day period. In cases such as this The Printworks will extend your period to return the contracts.
Can I change my contract after I have signed it?
If you wish to change your contract in anyway, please contact one of the team.
Can I terminate my contract before the agreed date?
Once your tenancy is signed, you are liable to meet all your obligations in terms of rental payments. If you wish to move out, you will need to find another person who will replace you; a small administration charge may be levied.
What if I am not happy with my allocated room or flat mates?
We always try and match your preferences with those of your flat mates, however, should you not be happy with your room, please contact the team, as we may be able to move you. Please note that there is a small administration charge for any room changes.

Chinese FAQ

Safety

The safety and security of all our students is of paramount importance to all of us at The Printworks and it is something that we take very seriously. However, we don’t want you to feel that you are being spied on 24 hours a day, and that’s why our concierge team are there for you when you need them.

Furthermore, The Printworks features passive security measures such as CCTV, which is recorded and used should a crime or antisocial behaviour take place as well as secure electronic locks.

These locks are opened using a unique fob which is coded to you and you alone and each lock records who has accessed the lock; again, this information is only used should a crime or disturbance have occurred.

Community

When we spoke with students in Exeter the majority told us that one of the most important features was to create spaces where you can get together, be yourselves and make your own.

At The Printworks we have listened, we have created spaces which are blank canvasses; they are for you to make your own. The communal areas are open 24/7 and are there for you to treat as part of your home.

Pubs and Bars

At The Printworks you can be safe in the knowledge that there are enough bars, pubs and clubs in the adjacent area to keep you entertained any day of the week.

But when you return home after a night out, you always know you will have peace and quiet to sleep. Alternatively, there’s no need to go to bed too early, you can always enjoy a night cap in the lounge or café with your friends and house mates.

Why not arrange a viewing and see how The Printworks can be the home for your Exeter life.
