1. Can I move out early?
Yes but you will still have to pay rent for the full length of your agreed tenancy, even if you no longer live at The Ballet School.
2. Do I have to pay Council Tax?
Students do not have to pay Council Tax, but you must inform the council that your are a student and apply for exemption as this does not automatically happen. It is the responsibility of every student to apply for exemption, your University/College or accommodation provider cannot do this for you, though we can help you!
3. Can I live with my friends?
Yes you can share a flat, you need to let us know who you’re planning to live with. Provided we have the availability at the time of your booking, there shouldn’t be a problem. If you're looking to share a studio with a friend or partner you will have to book together. Please contact us for further information.
4. Do I need a UK based guarantor?
You only need to provide a UK-based guarantor if you wish to pay your rent in three instalments. You do not need to provide a guarantor if you’re paying the full annual rent in advance. From 2014 we've teamed up with Housinghand who specialises in providing UK students and International students guarantor services. For more information, please click here.
5. What happens to the £250 deposit? Is it refundable?
Yes, when you move in the £250 is put into a Government approved tenancy deposit scheme, it is returned 10 working days after the tenancy ends minus any agreed deductions for damages. This is discussed with you at a check-out inspection.

Living at The Ballet School
The Ballet School could not be better placed to enjoy everything the West End has to offer. Bars, restaurants, clubs and pubs are all on your doorstep. The University is just a stroll away and Kelvinbridge SPT is just five minutes away, so if you ever need to go into the city’s centre, you can be there in no time.
As vibrant as the West End is, there are still places to go for peace and quiet; Kelvingrove Park is just a few minutes away and of course at The Ballet School, you have the relaxed courtyard setting. The West End also gives you the ‘regular’ shops that you need; butchers, bakers, supermarkets and much more besides is just a single street away.
Why not pay the Ballet School a visit and find out more.
Local pubs, clubs, restaurants and more...
At The Ballet School you could not be better placed to spend your days as a student. There are many great bars, pubs and local interests on the door step. We've asked our students to share their favourite local hot spots and lets hear what they have to say:
- Ashton Lane - Bar/Club (Ashton Lane: West of End Glasgow, Byres Road.)
" Many students will visit Ashton Lane weekly or monthly. Ashton Lane consists of many bars, restaurants and a licenced cinema. It is very local to The Ballet School accommodation as it is just situated off Byres Road. The clubs can be seen to be more expensive than bars/clubs in the city centre. However, they play different types of music to suit all students and it has all the students require without having to travel far."
- Jinty McGuinty's - Restaurant (23 Ashton Lane, Glasgow G12 8SJ. Tel: 0141 339 0747)
" Jinty McGuinty's irish bar seems to be very popular for students who are looking for a bar to start of there night."
- Ashoka - Restaurant (19 Ashton Ln, Glasgow, Lanarkshire G12 8SJ. Tel: 0141 337 1115)
"Many students have recommended 'Ashoka' curry, karaoke situated on Ashton Lane. This restaurant is seen to be very popular amongst students as it offers good food at a reasonable price. There is also other types of food on the menu other than curry. After and during meals students are able to take part in karaoke and have a few drinks before visiting a few bars around Ashton Lane. The restaurant is open from 12pm until 1am which is ideal for students working or studying. Again it is an easy destination to get to and from. Students are even able to walk home without the hassle of public transport. Also, taxis are always situated outside Ashton Lane as it is a very popular place, especially, for students."
- Sainsbury's - Supermarket (286-288 Great Western Road, Glasgow, G4 9EJ. Tel: 0141 331 0737)
"Majority of our students tend to use the local supermarkets situated on Great Western Road. Especially, Sainsbury’s, some of the items in this store tend to be quite expensive as it is a ‘Sainsbury’s local’. However, it is the closest option and majority of prices are very reasonable."
- Student Union - Walkabout (128 Renfield St, Glasgow G2 3AL. Tel: 0141 332 8209)
"Australian themed bar where many students enjoy watching sporting events with reasonably priced food and drink(student discounts). The union is very central and not far from the accommodation via public transport."
- Student Union - The Queen Margaret Union (22 University Gardens, Glasgow, G12 8QN. Tel: 0141 339 9784)
"The Queen Margaret union seems to be very popular amongst the students as it provides them with entertainment at night time, such as, quiz nights, open mic nights, karaoke etc…The Union is one of 2 on campus but the Queen Margaret union seems to be the most popular amongst students. Students can purchase food and drink or even just socialise with friends after classes. There are big events for students to attend once their exams are finished."
- Gym - University of Glasgow (University of Glasgow,77 Oakfield Avenue,Glasgow, G12 8LT. Tel: 0141 330 4540)
"Most students use the gym facilities provided by their university as it is local to the accommodation and the opening hour's suit around studies and part time jobs. Also, students receive gym facilities and exercise classes for a cheaper fee. The Glasgow university gym offers facilities from Swimming pools to a social area with free Wi-Fi."
