Colchester is famously Britain’s’ oldest recorded town and in 2022 it became one of the newest cities in the country as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
It is a city steeped in history from the largest surviving Roman Gateway (The Balkerne Gate) and Colchester Castle which is home to the largest Norman Keep in Europe.
If history isn’t your thing then don’t worry, modern day Colchester is a fantastic city full of great places to eat, drink and shop. Wander down the cobbled streets leading off of the High Street and you’ll be surrounded by lots of national stores as well as independent shops and cafes.
